Once you have installed Express Agent you will need to configure it to
monitor your SQL Express server(s) for any jobs that are scheduled to run.
Step 1 - Open the Express Agent Configuration program.
Depending on the shortcut options you selected when installing, there
will be shortcuts on your Start Menu, Desktop and Control Panel. If you need
to create a shortcut then the executable is in your installation folder and
named vswCPL.exe.
The default installation folder is "C:\Program Files\Vale
Software\Express Agent\Agent\"
Step 2 - Add your SQL Express server(s) to the Express
Agent service.
Select the Servers tab and click Add to open the Add Server
dialog.
Select the service name for your SQL Express server from the drop-down list.
Enter a login name and password if you don't want the Express Agent
service to login to your server using Windows NT authentication.
On the Options tab check the box if you want the Express Agent to
maintain the job history tables on the selected server.
Click OK to add the SQL Express server and close the Add Server
dialog.
Click Apply on the main screen to save your changes.
Repeat the above steps for each SQL Express server you wish to add.
Step 3 - Set Express Agent service options
Select the Options tab.
Check the Autostart service when operating system starts checkbox if
you want the Express Agent to start automatically.
Enter a number in the Delete log files older than box.
The Express
Agent maintains its' own log files in the "C:\Program Files\Vale
Software\Express Agent\Agent\Logs\" directory.
Enter your email settings if you want to send email alerts when jobs
complete.
Use the
Send a test email button to check you've
entered the email settings correctly.
Click Apply on the main screen to save your changes.
Step 4 - Start the Express Agent service
If your SQL
Express servers are running, and they have jobs configured and scheduled
already then you can start the Express Agent service.
Select the Status tab.
Click Start to start the service running. |
