Express Agent (Job Server) Online Help

Introduction

What is Express Agent?

Express Agent is a Windows NT service that executes jobs on an instance of Microsoft SQL Express. The Express edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 does not include the Microsoft agent service so Express Agent has been created to allow you to schedule and automatically run jobs on an Express edition server.

Express Agent will only work on an Express edition server (there is no need for it on any other edition of SQL Server or MSDE).

The service can be set up to monitor multiple instances of SQL Express and will execute any jobs (containing TSQL or CmdExec steps) as scheduled.

Click the link below to see how to quickly set up the Express Agent service.

Quick Start Guide

How do I create jobs on an SQL Express server?

We have provided the Express Job Builder program which will make it easy to create and manage jobs on your SQL Express servers. The Express Job Builder can be installed on your server or as many client machines as required. The program can be installed using the Express Agent installation file (just de-select the Express Agent package when prompted).
